You've got a point, it might have just been coincidence. I just thought the cd was fairly well reviewed and went absolutely nowhere...I guess the ELO brand had no strange magic left in it.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5777603.post-8867611055740046572007-09-10T11:18:00.000-05:002007-09-10T11:18:00.000-05:00Truthfully, I haven't heard much from those later ...Truthfully, I haven't heard much from those later albums (and the less said about "ELO Part II"...), but what I did hear (except maybe "Don't Bring Me Down") didn't exactly inspire me... I do have Zoom, and...well, it's kinda boring. I should give it another listen - but I remember being not terribly impressed by much of it. I don't think 9/11 had much to do w/its lack of success (it was released in June 2001, according to AMG), and it's not as if everyone just stopped buying music forever after 9/11. I mean, if it had been called "Screams from Collapsing Skiyscrapers," yeah, that would have been a really unfortunately choice of title for a shortly pre-9/11 album...but there's no relation, so, I think, no correlation.2fshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17813487704459856169noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5777603.post-33880987988519942142007-09-10T10:53:00.000-05:002007-09-10T10:53:00.000-05:00I've always been puzzled by that Randy Newman song...I've always been puzzled by that Randy Newman song too. It sounds like a tribute/appreciation but it's RANDY NEWMAN so I guess it must be a swipe? I also am a huge ELO/Lynne fan but I came in on Eldorado and worked backward going all the way back to The Move. I agree with nearly all your thoughts except I'm curious as to the "pathetic embarrassment it later became" comment. Are you referring to "Discovery"? I was VERY disappointed with that lp but I thought "Secret Messages", "Time" and "Balance of Power" had some great tunes on them. And what did you think of "Zoom" Lynne's ill-fated 2001 ELO comeback (released way too close to 9/11) which I thought was one of the best records of the year?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5777603.post-46336861397169390112007-09-09T22:14:00.000-05:002007-09-09T22:14:00.000-05:00My God, Jeff Lynne is everywhere.
